Mervys department store has been closed for nearly a month and has seen a huge drop in sales in the last three months.
The store has seen some of its best-selling items disappear from its shelves in recent weeks, according to an employee who asked not to be named because the store is not yet open.
Mervys has been the subject of several high-profile complaints since April.
Some customers say they have not been paid for months, and have reported that the store has not been open at all since the start of March.
A large part of the problem is the fact that many of the department stores employees are women.
Mervies general manager of corporate development, Marcy Nelson, said that this is a problem of the culture at the store and that women are not getting the opportunity to take on the full breadth of the role of store manager.
“That is why we’re really looking for candidates, and why we’ve had to close the store,” she said.
“That’s a real shame.
If we had had more people in that position, we would have been able to better serve our customers.”
Nelson said the company is committed to creating a new culture that focuses on diversity and inclusion.
“We’re very passionate about what we do and how we do it,” she explained.
“We’re always looking to do better.”
